Actually there are two kinds ;) Finished and to be finished

Finished

1. Taipei 101 (509 meters [1,671 ft], 101 Floors above ground and 5 underground) -  Republic of China (Taiwan)

Taipei 101 has 101 stories above ground and five underground. Upon its completion Taipei 101 claimed the official records for:

  • Ground to highest architectural structure (spire): 509.2 meters (1,670.60 ft). Previously held by the Petronas Towers 452 meters (1,483 ft).
  • Ground to roof: 449.2 meters (1,473.75 ft). Formerly held by the Sears Tower 442 meters (1,450 ft).
  • Ground to highest occupied floor: 439.2 meters (1,440.94 ft). Formerly held by the Sears Tower 412.4 meters (1,353 ft).
  • Fastest ascending elevator speed: 16.83 meters (55.22 ft) (60.6 km/hour, 37.7 mi/hour).
  • Largest countdown clock: On display every New Year's Eve.
  • The record for greatest height from ground to pinnacle remained with the Sears Tower in Chicago (USA): 527 meters (1,729 ft).

2. Shanghai World Financial Center (492 meters [1,614 ft], 101 Floors) -  Republic of China

The skyscraper's roof height has been set at 492 meters , and when completed in early 2008 is expected to temporarily have the highest roof in the world. Before construction resumed on the roof, tower height was scheduled to be 510 meters (1,673 ft) so the building would hold the title of the worlds tallest building (structural top) over the Taipei 101, but a height limit was imposed, allowing the roof to reach a maximum height of 492 meters .

3. Petronas Twin Towers (452 m [1,483 ft], 88 Floors) - Malaysia

These towers, which were designed by Cesar Pelli, an Argentine-American architect, were completed in 1998 and became the tallest buildings in the world on the date of completion. The 88-floor towers are constructed largely of reinforced concrete, with a steel and glass facade designed to resemble motifs found in Islamic art, a reflection of Malaysia's Muslim religion. They were built on the site of Kuala Lumpur's race track. Because of the depth of the bedrock, the buildings were built on the world's deepest foundations. The 120-meter foundations were built by Bachy Soletanche, and required massive amounts of concrete.

4. Sears Tower (442 m [1,451 ft], 108 Floors) - United States

Construction commenced in August 1970 and the building reached its originally anticipated maximum height on May 3, 1973. When completed, the Sears Tower had overtaken the roof of the World Trade Center in New York City as the world's tallest building. The tower has 108 stories as counted by standard methods, though the building owners count the main roof as 109 and the mechanical penthouse roof as 110. The distance to the roof is 1,451 feet (442 meters), measured from the east entrance.

5. Jin Mao Tower

The building employs an advanced structural engineering system which fortifies it against typhoon winds of up to 200 km/hour (with the top swaying by a maximum of 75 cm) and earthquakes of up to 7 on the Richter scale. The steel shafts have shear joints that act as shock absorbers to cushion the lateral forces imposed by winds and quakes, and the swimming pool on the 57th floor is said to act as a passive damper.
