Windows XP, Vista users cannot upgrade to Windows 10 without formatting

If you are using Windows XP or Vista (or an older version), and wish to upgrade to Windows 10, we have some bad news.

You cannot do so without formatting your current Windows installation.

The news comes from Microsoft’s Gabriel Aul, who responded to a query on Twitter, from a programmer asked him if it would be possible to upgrade from Windows XP to 10, without losing all his data.

Aul’s tweet however confirms that Windows 7 and 8 users can upgrade to 10 directly without losing their files.

Windows 10 will bring a slew of new features, and will also include a new lightweight browser called Spartan. Microsoft is set to unveil more about Windows 10 at an event scheduled for January 21. The company is expected to announce Windows 10 for phones and tablets at the event,.
