Nokia’s mobile phone division renamed Microsoft Mobile

Microsoft Corporation are inching closer to the final steps in acquiring Finnish Mobile Phone Giant, Nokia.

The Redmond based company, have changed the name of Nokia’s mobile phone division to reflect their own.

The Times of India reports that a letter from Microsoft addressed to sellers in Finland was leaked, and it stated that the Company had changed the name from Nokia Oyj to Microsoft Mobile Oy.

Here is what the letter said,

Please note that upon the close of the transaction between Microsoft and Nokia, the name of Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj will change to Microsoft Mobile Oy. Microsoft Mobile Oy is the legal entity name that should be used for VAT IDs and for the issuance of invoices.

But this isn’t actually Breaking News. A few days ago Nokia began sending out email’s to their users informing them about the “Privacy, Data Protection and Service Terms Information Regarding the Sale of Nokia’s Devices & Services Business to Microsoft”.

I too got the said email yesterday, and here is a screenshot which shows the change in the company’s name.

The email also reports that Nokia will retain some of it’s services such as HERE maps, which were not part of the agreement with Microsoft.

Microsoft have also bought the license for Lumia and Asha brand names, so we can expect some new devices from them after all.

What does this mean to the users? Well, nothing, except for the change in the name, which has already been updated in Finland, and is probably in the process of being updated in other Countries as well. Microsoft will be making an announcement soon, after the deal has been finalized.
