Google+ now lets you use whatever name you want

Google has backtracked on it’s username policy for Google+, after receiving flak from users for nearly three years, since the social network was launched.

And it didn’t stop there, with the merging of a person’s Gmail, YouTube and Google+ username, and a strict policy which only allowed a user to enter his/her real name.

Many users were angry and complained to no avail, while the ones concerned about privacy took to other social networks.

So, Google decided it was time for a change, and announced the policy change in a Google+ post, and here is what the statement said:

Over the years, as Google+ grew and its community became established, we steadily opened up this policy, from allowing +Page owners to use any name of their choosing to letting YouTube users bring their usernames into Google+. Today, we are taking the last step: there are no more restrictions on what name you can use.

So this change is undoubtedly to attract more users to Google+, especially who fear/dislike their real names being exposed on the internet where bullying is not uncommon. But it is certainly glad to see that Google being flexible, and respecting the privacy of their users.
